Artificial Intelligence – New Module in the Gothenburg Executive MBA Programme

27 August 2024

In mid-September, participants in the Executive MBA programme at the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg will, for the first time, engage with a new educational module on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Four renowned AI experts will lecture and provide the foundation for competent leadership in the transformation or implementation of AI within an organization.

GU Executive Education offers a 21-month Executive MBA programme, tailored corporate training, and several short programs. One of the latter is AI for Executives, which, after a highly successful and well-received first run in the spring of 2024, will start again this September. It spans six days.

Top-Class Lecturers
To keep the Executive MBA programme current and relevant, it is now being updated with a 2.5-day module on AI. Lecturers are four of the most appreciated speakers from the AI for Executives programme: Victor Appelgren, School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg; Göran Lindsjö, internationally engaged advisor on strategic AI issues; Miroslaw Staron, professor, Faculty of IT at the University of Gothenburg; and Pontus Wärnestål, Deputy Professor, Halmstad University.

The new module is created from selected parts of the six-day programme and provides a comprehensive overview of AI development from both a Swedish and international perspective. It highlights the technical, business, and societal aspects of AI and AI-based value creation, as well as the importance of designing human-AI interaction. Participants will also gain an understanding of the technology behind AI and tools for assessing and managing the implementation of AI opportunities within their own organizations.

Competence for management
“Competence needs to be present where strategic decisions are made. It is essential for managers and leaders to have the right and sufficient personal knowledge of AI to guide their organizations’ business development forward. Now, our Executive MBA programme participants will gain this, which feels very satisfactory,” comments Håkan Ericson, CEO of GU Executive Education.

The Executive MBA programme is offered on a part-time basis over four semesters and is conducted in English. The AI module will be held early in the third semester, which has the theme Renewing Business. Thus, the participants who started their studies in the autumn of 2023 will be the first to experience this new module during its inaugural run September 12–14.
