Launch of Gothenburg Executive MBA 2024-2026 – leadership in a complex and changing era

5 November 2024

In early October, the leaders and managers admitted to the Gothenburg Executive MBA programme 2024-2026 gathered for the first time. The participants, who represent very diverse industries, will undertake this English-language management training part-time for 21 months. The programme is designed to prepare them for leadership in a rapidly evolving, complex world.

Former participants often highlight the valuable exchange of experiences within the group as a key benefit. This year’s group includes participants from at least six countries and three continents, hailing from sectors as varied as manufacturing, IT, healthcare, energy, and medical research.

The Gothenburg Executive MBA programme focuses on building the ability to lead in a complex world with a high rate of change. Digitalisation, sustainability and innovation are examples of areas of expertise that are becoming increasingly important and in different ways colour the programme. New for this year is that the programme also includes a module on AI for leaders. Half of the lecturers come from the School of Business, Economics and Law and half from the School’s partner universities around the world. The international focus is manifested through two week-long study trips to Bangalore in India and Seoul in South Korea – countries where people and businesses are used to dealing with complexity and a very high rate of change.

Courageous and wise leaders
In addition to gaining comprehensive management skills, previous participants report significant personal growth throughout the programme, aligning with the programme providers’ educational goals.

“The major challenges of our time call for courageous and wise leaders who can reflect on their decision-making. This theme runs throughout the program. I look forward to following this multifaceted group’s professional and personal development”, says Håkan Ericson, CEO of GU Executive Education.

Highly valued instructors
Evaluations of the Gothenburg Executive MBA programme reveal that participants have enhanced their ability to integrate different business disciplines, have become more conscious of ethics and responsible business, and have developed their strategic thinking, decision-making, leadership, communications and critical thinking skills. Participants particularly appreciate:

  • instructors’ ability to leverage participants’ experiences
  • overall teaching effectiveness
  • the incorporation of related issues and current events into the curriculum
  • group quality and exchange, and
  • the industry experience among instructors.

Triple Crown
In 2016, the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg was the first in Sweden to receive a Triple Crown accreditation – a seal of quality in the form of the three leading international accreditations for business schools (AMBA, AACSB and EQUIS), which are held by only about one per cent of the world’s business schools. The Gothenburg Executive MBA programme gives 60 credits.
