Leading in public sector organizations means keeping everyday operations running while creating space for change. You need to weigh different needs against each other, make difficult decisions, and give people the conditions to do good work. How do you develop your leadership to meet that responsibility?
The University of Gothenburg’s academic courses in leadership in public sector organizations give you the opportunity to pause, deepen your knowledge, and view your role with fresh eyes. Here you gain perspectives that help you develop both your own leadership and the organization you are responsible for.
The program has been developed and refined over 20 years in close collaboration with the Region Västra Götaland and the City of Gothenburg. The specific conditions of the public sector form the starting point. The courses address strategic leadership, organizational development, change and innovation, as well as all the questions that digitalization and AI raise for you as a manager.
All courses are offered part-time and combined with work. This gives you the opportunity to test new knowledge in your own organization and let what you encounter in everyday work become part of your reflection and development.
Teaching is conducted in Swedish. Eligibility requires an undergraduate academic degree. The next application period opens in spring 2027, with course start in autumn 2027. If you are employed by the City of Gothenburg or the Region Västra Götaland, you register through the HR department at your workplace. More information about applying for other applicants will be published ahead of the next application period.
