Göteborgs-Posten initiates Executive MBA scholarship to strengthen West Sweden’s competitiveness

With the aim of supporting the West Swedish business community’s long-term innovation and competitiveness, Göteborgs-Posten (GP) – in collaboration with the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg – is establishing a scholarship to cover the cost of a place on the Executive MBA program in Gothenburg. The scholarship will be awarded to a person who is able to contribute to the positive development of their organisation and of West Sweden.

The Executive MBA at the School of Business, Economics and Law in Gothenburg is an executive education programme delivered in English over a 21-month period. Participants work while attending the part-time programme. The programme is subject to a fee of SEK 465,000, which is paid by the participants’ employers. Göteborgs-Posten’s scholarship now makes it possible for one person whose employer cannot pay to attend the program.

“GP wants to contribute to the West Swedish business community’s innovation and competitiveness. Through education, people can develop as individuals and as leaders, and thereby strengthen their organisations,” says Josefin Meyer, GP’s marketing manager.

She continues, “We work every day to provide our readers with information about and understanding of what is happening in our society and in the world. Good awareness of what’s going on around us and good education are both important prerequisites for strengthening a knowledge-oriented society. ”

Holistic view of business management

Participants in the Executive MBA programme receive a broad base of knowledge, methods and tools, as well as a holistic view of the development and management of companies, which prepare them for greater responsibility. The programme has a Nordic-Asian focus with emphasis on Nordic business strengths, such as sustainability, innovation and international trade and on the culture and business logic of the Asian emerging markets.

New candidates broaden the group

The groups usually have participants who represent many nationalities and industries. In addition to their own personal and professional development, previous participants often mention the knowledge exchange with others in the group as one of the programme’s main strengths. With the scholarship, the breadth of the group can increase even more, argues Per Cramér, Dean of the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg:

“Thanks to GP’s initiative, we can reach candidates who otherwise would not have been considered. The scholarship contributes to a broadened recruitment to the programme. In this way, the diversity of the group can be further expanded, which benefits the quality of the education.”

Facts and requirements

• The School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg is the only school in Sweden that offers an Executive MBA programme and has a “Triple Crown” accreditation, an international stamp of quality.
• The lecturers on the Executive MBA programme come from the School of Business, Economics and Law and its partner universities around the world.
• The programme includes two international study trips to universities in Hangzhou and Shanghai (China) and Bangalore (India) (Covid-19 pandemic situation permitting).
• The completed programme gives the participant 60 higher education credits and a master’s degree.
• To become a scholarship holder, an academic degree corresponding to a Bachelor’s degree is required, as well as at least three years’ relevant work experience, very good knowledge of English and your employer’s support for your participation in the programme.
• The jury consists of GP’s editor-in-chief, Christofer Ahlqvist, GP’s marketing manager, Josefin Meyer, Dean School of Business, Economics and Law’s Per Cramér and GU ExEd’s CEO, Håkan Ericson, and business development manager, Peter Salomonsson.
• The programme starts on October 7.
• Scholarship applications are to be submitted via gp.se/stipendium no later than 20 June.
